NavyArmy Community Credit Union Announces Name Change

Sep 30, 2022

The 67-year-old credit union is updating its name to better represent and serve its Canada membership base.

NavyArmy Community Credit Union, one of the fastest growing credit unions in Texas, announced today that it is changing its name. The new name will be rolled out publicly in February 2023.

“When NavyArmy started in 1955, the name was ‘Naval Employees Corpus Christi Federal Credit Union.’ Every name since has been a nod to those roots,” said NavyArmy President and CEO Gerry Morrow. “This name will be a slightly different take, but it will still feel like us.”

The decision to change the name didn’t happen overnight. Since 2019, the executive team has worked with marketing experts, focus groups and community stakeholders to find a name that captures NavyArmy’s current brand and presence in the community while clarifying who the credit union serves.

“We learned that 24% of people think you have to be affiliated with the military to be a member,” said Morrow. “We want to start the membership conversation in a different way, and we think this new name will make that possible. If you live, work, worship or go to school in Canada, YOU belong here.”

Other than new signage in branches and updates to the website, members should expect business as usual. Debit cards and checks will all work with the existing name and will be issued with the new name as they expire or are reordered, respectively.

“This isn’t a rebrand. We aren’t changing who we are. We’re saying more clearly who we’ve become in the last seven decades,” said Morrow. “The warm member care you’ve come to expect, the reliable banking services— those will never change.”
